Clint Maples: SOA Board of Directors Candidate

My name is Clint Maples and I'm excited to announce my candidacy for the SOA Board!

My goals for the Somersett community include the following:

  • The betterment of our community, safety of our neighbors, and protection of our status as one of Reno’s most desirable neighborhoods.
  • Prudent, transparent, and fiscally responsible management of HOA funds, resources, and facilities.
  • Expansion of highly successful programs that support our parents and families (after school care, summer camps, swim lessons, etc.)
  • Improved visibility and safety in the community roundabouts
  • Work with Reno PD to improve our neighborhood watch program
  • Ensure builders respect the Somersett "reduced lighting" goals.

SOA board members must know how to plan and understand the budget, manage the association's finances, deal with disputes, and listen to the residents. I've already met with current Board members. I've already reviewed the Budget and Reserve Study. I'm currently serving on the Somersett Facilities committee.

I served on the board of a previous  Homeowners Association, where I accomplished the following:

  • Improved the safety of the community and eliminated porch piracy via a neighborhood watch program in partnership with local law enforcement
  • Managed the HOA reserves in a prudent, transparent, and fiscally responsible way to ensure our replacement fund was sufficient to cover expected future expenditures without the need for special assessments. This was done in part by using the facilities owned by the association to generate revenue when not being used by residents
  • Improved and upgraded community facilities without raising dues

I'm a husband, father, little league coach, US Army veteran. We've lived in Somersett for the last 3 years. My wife Kim and I have and eight-year-old son and six-year-old daughter. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, riding my motorcycle, skiing, and coaching little league (Go Rays!)

In my day job, I lead the Cybersecurity team for a Fortune 500 company and serve on the board for a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit volunteer organization that works to help students from historically underrepresented groups start careers in Cybersecurity.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Finance and a proven track record of building and leading successful teams. I am a US Army Reserve Veteran with combat leadership experience.

I'm looking forward to working harmoniously with other board members and volunteers as well as the management team to continuously make Somersett a great place to live.
